ISO 22000 certification is a standard or requirement for a Food Safety Management System (FSMS) developed by ISO. ISO 22000 has been the standard for food safety since 2005 and is based on HACCP guidelines in line with Codex Alimentarius and ISO 9001 management principles. ISO 22000 is a certificate that is more focused and concerned on the business process, management and leadership as well as food safety of an organization. This set of requirements not only applicable to food processors, and manufacturers but also to any organization involved in the food chain. ISO 22000 required the organization to analyze and address the risk and opportunity; determine their internal and external issue. ISO 2000 also required of continual improvement.
HACCP – Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point is an internationally recognized management system for reducing hazards in food. HACCP certification focuses solely on food safety where it assists in addressing the biological, chemical and physical hazards of food safety from raw material production, procurement and handling to the manufacturing, distribution and use of finished products. HACCP is follow the guideline established by Codex Alimentarius – General Principle of Food Hygience – CXC 1-1969. Briefly, HACCP is more specialized in dealing with testing, monitoring, and documenting specific critical control points. HACCP required the organization to implement the 7 HACCP principles. Besides, GMP (good manufacturing practice) is one of the elements in HACCP.
Good Manufacturing Practices or GMP certification is a system consisting of processes, procedures and documentation that ensure manufacturing products are produced and controlled consistently in accordance with established safety, quality and legal standards. GMP certification will examine every aspect of the manufacturing process to protect against any risks that could bring disaster to the product, such as cross-contamination, counterfeiting and incorrect labeling but there will not look into the food safety hazard and the critical control point in the process.
