ISO 22000 is a standard that specifies the requirements for a Food Safety Management System (FSMS) and can be certified. ISO 22000:2018 is the latest revision of the ISO 22000 standard which was revised and published in year 2018. The ability to consistently offer safe foods, products, and services that fulfill customer and applicable statutory and regulatory criteria is one of the benefits of implementing an ISO 22000. It also can address the food safety risks linked with the organization’s goals. The ISO 22000 standard outlines the seven important key clauses requirements :

1. Context of the organization
The organization needs to determine external and internal issues, review and update information relevant to the interested parties and shall determine the scope of the FSMS.

2. Leadership
Regarding the food safety management system (FSMS), top management must show their leadership and commitment to provide, implement and maintain a food safety policy. Also need to ensure the roles and authorities are assigned, communicated, and understood throughout the organizations. Food safety team leaders have to appoint.

3. Planning
When planning for the FSMS, the organization must take actions to address the company’s risks and opportunities and determine the objectives for FSMS at all relevant departments and levels.

4. Support
Organizations needs to provide sufficient support in terms of resources (people, environment, infrastructure, equipment, etc), competence, awareness, and communication to ensure the successful implementation of FSMS. Besides, organization is required to document the necessary information (policy, objectives, role and responsible, etc) in a proper documentation format and standard form.

5. Operations
Organizations responsible for planning, implementing, controlling, maintaining and updating procedures necessary to meet standards for safe product production by means of food safety teams shall conduct hazard analysis such as keeping hazard control plans and controlling product and process non-conformities.

6. Performance evaluation
The organization must analyze and evaluate appropriate data and information derived from monitoring and measuring, such as the outcomes of verification activities linked to Pre-requisite program (PRP), hazard control plans, internal audits, and external audits.

7. Improvement
The organization’s suitability, sufficiency, and effectiveness of the FSMS shall be continually improved, and top management shall guarantee that the FSMS is continually updated. To do so, the food safety team will analyze the FSMS at predetermined intervals.
To get the ISO 22000 in Malaysia, the organization is required to fulfill the ISO 22000 requirements above.
